Description
An Exceptionally Rare Silver Piefort
THAILAND. Piefort 2 Baht (1/2 Tamlung), ND (1860). Bangkok Mint. Rama IV. NGC MS-62.
cf. KM-Y-12 (for regular issue). This VERY RARE double-thick issue, unlisted in the Standard Catalog of World Coins, may be a pattern or presentation strike. The coin features the same wonderfully ornate design of the normal 2 Baht, seen here with stunning Mint State clarity and a rich mottled charcoal tone. A small chakra stamp is seen above the elephant's back, but the coin remains totally unmarred by any distractions or defects. This lofty rarity will doubtlessly attract specialists in the Thai series.
