Description

1851 Braided Hair Cent. N-2. Rarity-1. MS-65 RB (PCGS).

Abundant faded reddish-orange mint color remains on surfaces that also show iridescent steel and olive-brown patina on the devices. Predominantly smooth, as befits the Gem Mint State grade returned by PCGS, a concentration of light nicks on Liberty's chin are the only blemishes of note, and mentioned here solely for provenance purposes. In his cataloging for the Goldbergs' Naftzger III sale, Bob Grellman described this coin as, "Called MS64 and CC#4 in the Noyes census, his photo #55027. Our grade is MS64, CC#7 in the Grellman census." Grellman Die State b.

PCGS# 406651. NGC ID: 226H.

Ex Willard C. Blaisdell, September 1976, via Del Bland; R.E. "Ted" Naftzger, Jr.; Ira & Larry Goldberg's sale of the Ted Naftzger Collection, Part III, September 2009 Pre-Long Beach Auction, lot 1020.
