A.R. BARRETT curved / (eagle) counterstamped on the both sides of an 1834 Matron Head large cent. Brunk-Unlisted, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Very Fine.
According to Sellers (2nd edition - 2008), A.R. Barrett & Co. were gunsmiths operating in Wytheville, VA in 1861-64 and supplied rifles to the Confederacy during the Civil War. This stamp was most likely used to mark some of their products. The principals of the company are not listed, but with some digging the people involved could easily be discovered.
