Description

Counterstamps

PN / (HEAD / H / (LION) in box punches on an 1832 Matron Head large cent. Brunk-Unlisted, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Fine.

These are the hallmarks of a silversmith. Much more than a random mark, as they should all be from the same silversmith. American marks are not as regulated as other countries like Great Britain, but these marks speak of regulation and are most likely from a major city like Baltimore, MD. So far they remain unattributed, but their owner should be able to be discerned with a bit of research.

From the Steve M. Tompkins Collection.

Estimate: $ 150
