PURE COIN in a box punch on an 1816 Matron Head large cent. Brunk P-780, Rulau-Z75F. Host coin Very Good.
A silversmith’s mark that was placed on silver products that were made of coin silver. This term came into use circa 1830-1834 after the content of silver in coins was changed to .900 fine and assured the purchaser that the item was silver all the way through not just silver plated. As with the above lot, a thorough search of multiple silversmiths’ stamps should produce a punch match.
