Counterstamps

E. PUTNAM in a box punch on an 1818 Matron Head large cent. Brunk P-785, Rulau-Unlisted. Host coin Good.

Edward Putnam was a silversmith and jeweler working in Boston, MA from 1822 to 1830. In the 1822 Boston city directory he is listed in the jewelers business with John J. Low as PUTNAM & LOW located at 33 Cornhill. In 1825 he is listed alone as a jeweler, now located at 12 Washington. Starting in 1826 his home address is added. In the 1830 directory he is now listed at 50 Washington. He is no longer listed in later editions.
