Calvin Stowe Ball Jr. (1832-1923) was born in Pompey, NY and worked as a silversmith & jeweler in Syracuse, NY starting in 1853. He partnered with Seymour S. Stone in 1858 as Stone & Ball, working under that name until 1869. Afterward, he continued alone in the trade until selling out to Stetson & Crouse in 1903. Both Ball and Stowe & Ball were prolific counterstampers of coinage.
