Description

SICILY. Segesta. Circa 440/435-420/416 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 7.85 g, 10 h). Hound standing to left, his head lowered, on the scent. Rev. Head of the nymph Segesta to right, wearing a pendant earring and with her hair bound up at the back and tied in a broad band over her forehead. Hurter 113 (same dies, and possibly q, this coin?). SNG ANS 624 (same dies). Rare, toned and nicely centered, with an attractive head of the nymph. About very fine.
