Description

SICILY. Segesta. Circa 455-440 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 8.24 g, 7 h). Hound, the rivergod Krimisos, standing to right; above, barley grain. Rev. ΣΕΓΣΤΑΖΙΒ (retrograde) Head of the nymph Aigeste to right, her hair bound with taenia and curled up at the back. Hurter 76m (this coin). Rizzo pl. LXI, 10. Rare, and of a fine, but severe, local style. Small flan crack and minor marks, otherwise, very fine.
