Description

Republic gold 10 Pesos 1889 Mo-MS MS61 Prooflike PCGS, Mexico City mint, KM413.7. Of extreme rarity, the sole certified piece by NGC or PCGS and only the second of the type we have ever handled (that specimen uncertified, realized $8,500 hammer at our September 2011 sale). Only 88 were ever struck, and of those the present specimen must be amongst the finest extant. Prooflike with flashy fields slightly 'dished' at the peripheries, devices bold and with minimal contact; some scuffing is evident which has detracted from the certified grade, but its eye appeal remains immensely strong. A piece whose rarity means its value can only be determined by the most dedicated collectors of Mexican gold when it comes to cross the auction block.
