Description

Brunswick-Lüneburg-Calenberg. Ernst August "Death of Johann Friedrich" Taler 1679 MS63 NGC, Zellerfeld mint, KM234, Dav-6589, Knyphausen-8645, Welter-1724. Struck upon the death of Johann Friedrich. Showcasing a regal and sensitively rendered portrait of the sitter, meticulously detailed and bestowed an impressive preservation, likely the result of placement in a cabinet early in its life. Light reflectivity pervades the protected regions of the legends while only the occasional wisp within the pewter fields precludes the piece from a higher designation. One of only a handful of representatives to surface in recent decades and certainly one of the finest, as confirmed by NGC as the sole occupier of their census. Ex. Johann Max Böttcher Collection (Harald Möller Auction 47, November 2007, Lot 174) From the collector: I purchased many coins during the 2007 Böttcher sale including this beautiful death commemorative. From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
