Description

Brunswick-Lüneburg-Calenberg. Johann Friedrich "Palm" Taler 1676 MS64 NGC, Clausthal mint, KM149.2, Dav-6573, Knyphausen-2422, Welter-1704. A simply entrancing representative of this elusive type and one only seen with more frequency in recent years. Finely preserved just shy of a gem designation and limited by only a scant few contact marks doing little to detract from the visual character of the piece at hand. Fully endowed with a precise strike and elevated by a rich cabinet patina, this intriguing issue departs from those generally encountered from this state, remaining one of the more iconic Talers of the era with its palm reverse and legend reading "EX DURIS GLORIA" or "From Suffering Arises Glory." Of certified examples, this piece stands firmly atop the field, and as such is expected to pique significant bidder interest. Purchased privately from Dirk Löbbers From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
