Bavaria. Maximilian II Emanuel "Madonna" Taler 1694 MS64 NGC, Munich mint, KM363.2, Dav-6099A, Wittelsbach-1645, Hahn-199. A more prolific type than we've seen from the majority of Talers in this sale, yet still as awe-inspiring as any of them in this advanced tier of preservation, besting more than 40 other examples submitted to the major grading services. Flashes of originality permeate the lavishly struck devices, presenting a fineness rarely accompanying the issue while a gentle champagne undercurrent adds to the already peak quality. A slight deviation in the obverse bust showing a higher wig indicates an attribution of Dav-6099A, confirming this offering as the finest for both designations, with only an MS63+ in close competition at PCGS. Ex. Johann Max Böttcher Collection (Harald Möller Auction 47, November 2007, Lot 66) From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
