Description

Bavaria. Maximilian I Taler 1638 MS65 NGC, Munich mint, KM227.3, Dav-6078, cf. Wittelsbach-904, Hahn-111. Wonderous, and quite nearly impossible to imagine in any sort of a meaningfully finer designation, with its superior conditional moniker already indicating a piece which must have be set aside almost immediately after it was first struck. Stippled with a micro-fine granularity throughout the fields over both sides, luster positively abounds the planchet, with even the least marks seemingly eluding close inspection. Just the second example of the type-date we have handled, it is noteworthy that NGC has seen just 3 others to date, the next finest of which is an AU58. Ex. Johann Max Böttcher Collection (Harald Möller Auction 47, November 2007, Lot 61) From the collector: This is another fantastic Madonna Taler I purchased during the 2007 Böttcher collection. From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
