Description

Republic copper Specimen Essai Patacon 1879 SP64 Brown PCGS, Brussels mint, KM-XE6a, Guttag-Unl., Janson-25.3. By C. Wurden. A fleeting copper Pattern (Essai) produced two years before the advent of the decimal system in Argentina. Toned to a chocolate-brown, with razor-sharp detail displayed throughout the designs. Previously described in David Akers' auction of the Pittman as semi-Prooflike, though apparently since toned over. Regardless, we most certainly agree with the note in the previous lot description, which describes the coin as having "very clean surfaces" and being "largely free of marks, hairlines or even carbon." A scarce opportunity for the rarity-seeking Pattern collector. Ex. John Jay Pittman Collection (David Akers, August 1999, Lot 3347); Virgil Brand et. al. Collection (Hans Schulman, November 1964, Lot 3334) [not plated]
