Description

Christian V Speciedaler 1670 MS62 PCGS, Copenhagen mint, KM322, Dav-3629, Hede-61A, Sieg-58.1. With PIETATE ET JUSTITIA ANNO MDCLXX on edge. An astonishing rendition of this very rare speciedaler from the beginning of Christian's reign, seldom found without some incidence of circulation. Toned to a dove-gray with a brilliant white shimmer beneath the fields, each detail of the design--down to the saddle on the tiny elephant's back--is rendered with the utmost precision, satin texture visible in each of the reverse shields while the few adjustments over the arms of Norway do hardly anything to distract the eye. A type almost never seen outside of Denmark and a true pleasure to behold. Ex. Astarte Auction XXIII (June 2010, Lot 215)
