Description

Frederick III Speciedaler 1667-GK MS65 NGC, Copenhagen mint, KM288, Dav-3555, Hede-73A (R; same dies), Sieg-90 (R). A simply incredible survivor of this only one-year design type which, while not reused on any subsequent issues, easily represents one of the finest designs employed on Frederick's coinage. Showing a small die crack extending from the N in VAN, the piece is immaculately preserved, the reverse nearly as fresh as is conceivable, pull-away tone producing a distinctive sharpness to the legends. Quite easily on par with, if not slightly finer than, the Hede example reoffered by Bruun Rasmussen in May 2012, even the most serious of Danish connoisseurs will be hard-pressed to find a more fitting representative for their collections.
