Byzantine lead seal of John metropolitan of Melitine
(ca 12th cent.)
Obverse: Inscription in 5 lines, ΙΩ,ΜΡΟ/ΠΟΛΙΤΗ/ΜΕΛΙΤΙ/ΝΙCS.../..ΓSA = Ἰωάννῃ μητροπολίτῃ Μελιτινῆς καὶ ..., dotted border.
Reverse: Seemingly the initial inscription for some word was later abrased.
A very interesting historically seal! Melitine is certainly the town in Armenia Minor, today Malatya in Eastern Anatolia, Turkey.
