286-287 AD. London mint. Obv: IMP CARAVSIVS P F AV legend with laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev: EXPECTATE VENI legend with Britannia standing right holding trident in left hand clasping right hands with emperor standing left holding sceptre in left; RSR in exergue. RIC v, ii, pp.510, 554-557; RSC 37-39; Webb 603-607; Sear 13508. 4.22 grams. . The reverse legend translates as 'Come. long-awaited one' and is thought to be based upon a quotation from Virgil's Aeneid (ii, 283) between Aeneas and Hector; there are other quotation examples seen on the coins of Carausius.
