Description

SUMATRA: Anonymous, AE unit (6.01g), ca. 11th-14th centuries, cf. Zeno-310220, lion walking left, one paw holding sword, dotted border around // head of lion left, umbrella above, uncertain symbol to left, fly whisk to right, three pellets below, dotted border around, some peripheral weakness, lovely patina, Choice EF. This coin is an example of a newly discovered type from central Sumatra called Jambi lion coins. Very little is known about their historical background.
