"1852" Henry Clay Memorial Medal. Julian PE-8. Copper, Bronzed. Mint State.
76 mm. From our September 2011 Philadelphia Americana sale, where this medal was described as: Medium chestnut brown with deeper highlights. Julian states some uncertainty as to whether these were struck by the Mint, though another larger Henry Clay medal (J-PE 7), dies also by C.C. Wright, was a definite Mint product. A tiny flaw on the obverse edge left of 12 o'clock is microscopic and appears to be Mint made. This handsome production by Charles Cushing Wright provides collectors the most handsome of the medallic portraits of Clay in an impressively large format.
From the Harry and Phyllis Salyards Collection. Earlier from our Philadelphia Americana Sale of September 2011, lot 154.
