Description

Port Angeles, Washington. $20 1929 Ty. 1. Fr. 1802-1. First NB. Charter #6074. PMG Very Fine 25.
Located on the Olympic Peninsula just to the south of the maritime border with Canada. The city of Port Angeles serves as the seat of Clallam County and was originally known as Puerto de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles thanks to the likes of Spanish explorer Francisco de Eliza who surveyed much of the Pacific Northwest in the 1790s. The area would eventually see settlement in the 1850s and by 1890 Port Angeles was formally incorporated. In 1901 the First National Bank (Charter# 6074) would be organized with the minimum required capital of $6,250 and would linger past 1935 and into 1970s when it became part of the Seattle-First National Bank in 1976. The building which once housed the First National Bank during its heyday still stands in downtown Port Angeles currently unoccupied and previously housed a secondhand record store that recently went out of business. Today a small number of notes issued by the First National Bank are known to collectors. The National Bank Note Census records a total of 30 individual notes which provide for a supply that never seems to keep up with the demand for notes from Washington.

Estimate: $1000.00 - $1500.00
