Black River Falls, Wisconsin. $5 1882 Brown Back. Fr. 470. First NB. Charter #3897. PMG Very Fine 20 Net. Splits, Stained.
Situated in Jackson County amidst the rural expanses of Wisconsin sits the town of Black River Falls which takes its name from a nearby set of falls on the Black River which bisects the community. Like many towns in Wisconsin the area was first settled in the 1850s and grew considerably in the decades that followed. The First National Bank of Black River Falls (Charter# 3897) would be established in 1888 and remained the town's only National Bank through 1933 when its assets were absorbed by the state-chartered First State Bank. A total of only 30 notes are recorded on this institution by the National Bank Note Census with six examples of this type recorded. Of those recorded, very few have been offered in recent memory with just three pieces being offered since January 2018 which coincidentally happens to be when the last Brown Back from here was traded at public auction. PMG comments "Splits, Stained."
