Undated (ca. 1793) Washington Success Medal. Large Size. Musante GW-43, Baker-265, var., W-Unlisted. Third Die. Brass. Plain Edge. EF-40 (PCGS).
24.7 mm. 72.0 grains. Deep steely-brown with warm golden-olive on the high points that creates a pleasing visual contrast. A speck of verdigris is noted on the reverse and there are some faint handling scrapes, but the visual appeal is quite good for this degree of wear. Obverse die prominently cracked through Washington's head diagonally upward to the right. Very similar to the Breen plate piece and quite possibly the same example.
From the Richard August Collection.
