"1720" (early 20th century) Founding of Louisbourg Medal. Betts-143. Silver. MS-66 (PCGS).
41.5 mm. 608.9 grains. Edge marked (cornucopia) 1ARGENT, indicative of a 20th century production of the Paris Mint. An extraordinary Gem, with spectacular blue and sea green toning covering the obverse and perfectly framing the central reverse. Produced with a glossy antique finish that gives the fields a watery look, but also suggests the presence of hairlines (though none are present). Essentially flawless and beautiful, a really pretty way to represent this scarce Betts medal in an advanced cabinet.
From the Joe Foster Collection. Earlier from Charles Moore Numismatic Auctions' TOREX sale, February 2009, lot 1452.
