Weights: 148, 144 gms; diameters: 70mm. By JC Chaplain. Obverse: Portrait bust facing left, wearing medal of the Légion d'honneur on his left side, of which the President of the French Republic is the official Grand Master, EMILE LOUBET PRESIDENT DE LA REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE around; Reverse: Central classical pedestal on a dais emblazoned on its front with the emblem of the Republic: fasces, backed by oak and olive branches, with initials on either side, "R[epublique] F[rançaise]". On top of the pedestal is an urn for the receipt of ballots, reflecting the legend marking the date of Loubet's election by the National Assembly. Behind a spear-tipped flagpole, its French flag partly draped over the pedestal and national emblem, ELU PAR L'ASSEMBLEE NATIONALE LE 18 FEVRIER 1899 around. Loubet was President of France from 1899-1906, and his was the last of Chaplain's many medals of French Presidents in his capacity as official medalist to the French government (see also in the Parks Collection, medals of French Presidents Mac-Mahon 1873, Carnot 1888, and Casimir-Périer 1894, Faure 1895, Fallièrs 1906).
