Henri Paul Hyacinthe Wallon (1879-1962) was a French philosopher, social psychologist, neuropsychiatrist, teacher, and socialist politician. Upon graduating from the École Normale Supérieure in 1902, Wallon spent the next six years studying medicine, and from 1908 to 1931 worked closely with mentally challenged children. A Lecturer at the Sorbonne in 1920, he later completed a doctorate with a dissertation on the study of "turbulent children". Named Director of Studies at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in 1927, Wallon founded the pioneering Laboratory of Pediatric Psychobiology at CNRS. Between 1937-49, Wallon was a professor at the Collège de France and Chair of the Department of Childhood Psychology and Education. In 1948, as Director of the University of Paris's Institute of Psychology, he inaugurated the journal Enfance, and served as President of the Groupe Drançais d'Éducation Nouvelle from 1946 until his death in 1962. He is most well known for his elaborate psychological theories regarding distinctive stages of childhood development. References: - Deneken, J. C. Chaplain-Ausstellung Medaillen, #85.
