FRANCE. Kingdom. Square Uniface Tin Obverse Trial for Écu de Calonne, ND (1786). Paris Mint. Louis XVI. PCGS SPECIMEN-61.
cf. Ciani-2206 (for obv. type as a silver pattern). By J.-P. Droz. Dimensions: 49mm x 50mm. Weight: 29.89 gms. Quite possibly a UNIQUE trial on an almost perfectly square planchet, this specimen presents an abundance of radiant brilliance paired with invitingly steely gray surfaces.
From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Burgan on 22 May 1997). Ex: de Martelaere Collection (Claude Burgan 40 - 5/1997) Lot # 190.
