GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Crown, ND (1643-44). York Mint; mm: Lion Passant. Charles I. PCGS MS-61.
S-2868; N-2314; KM-312; Besly-3E; ESC-572; cf. SCBI Brooker 1082-4. A charming example boasting much character, with antique toning throughout and a few small flan flaws on the obverse. An elegant type that was struck using a roller press; the period of 1643-44 was one of the only in British history to feature coinage struck as such, using French equipment hauled by Nicholas Briot to the safety of York during the Civil War. SCARCE in Mint State, and bested by a sole example in the PCGS census, in MS-62.
