GREAT BRITAIN. 3 Pence, ND (1643-44). York Mint; mm: Lion Passant. Charles I. PCGS AU-58.
S-2877; N-2323; KM-Unlisted. Obverse: Crowned half-length bust left; Reverse: long cross atop shield. A VERY SCARCE minor denomination from the era of the English Civil War, struck on a roller press hauled by Nicholas Briot to the safety of York. Handsomely toned and quite lovely, with soft luster remaining in the protected areas and essentially full detail throughout. The first we are able to recall offering of the type to date, and quite difficult in conditions approaching Mint State.
