Unissued pair of trial pieces for 500 peso trial with selvage printed for the "El Departamento de Emision del Banco de la Republica Oriental Del Uruguay" which is the first time we have seen this bank name. Eventually Banco Central del Uruguay, which issued its first banknotes in 1966, used Thomas de la Rue to print this design in various denominations and not the United States Banknote Corporation which printed the trial pieces in this lot in a possible effort to win the contract to print the 1966 series. Other trial pieces of this design were printed for the "Banco Central de la Republica Oriental del Uruguay" which was determined too similar to the name of a commercial bank operating in Uruguay at the time and leads us to believe that the bank name had not been decided on yet.
