Bellows Falls, Vermont. $5 1875. Fr. 401. The NB. Charter #1653. PMG Very Fine 20.
Currently unrecorded on this Windham County institution, this example will make only the second 1875 $5 recorded by the National Bank Note Census. A bold piece with even circulation, great color is readily apparent on both the face and the reverse specifically the contrast between the vignette of Columbus's landing and the other elements such as Vermont's state seal situated at left. Signatures are bold, but were applied heavily with an acidic ink. An issue which has contributed to ink burn which has unfortunately eaten away at a piece of the bottom right margin, but fails to distract from the other attractive qualities of this note.
