Each identical note shows an eagle rising from the urn of ashes and flanked by "3" protectors. This city bank organized in 1812 and operated as a Chartered Bank until becoming a Free Bank in 1853. As the National Banking era rolled around in 1865 it transformed into the Phenix National Bank of the City of New York, charter 1374. PMG notes "Stains." We sold this same sheet twenty years ago as part of our Ford VI sale. It realized $1,265 that day.
