1786 Vermont Copper. Landscape. RR-6, Bressett 4-D, W-2020. Rarity-2. VERMONTENSIUM. Curved Clip @ 11 O'Clock, Struck 5% Off Center. AU Details--Burnished (NGC).
This is a "busy" example, providing much for expert numismatic study and appreciation. The strike is off center to 7 o'clock on the obverse (mounted as the reverse in the NGC holder), 2 o'clock on the reverse, with a shallow curved planchet clip at 11 o'clock relative to the former side. Marbled autumn-brown, steely-copper and deep rose colors to both sides, the surfaces curiously glossy in texture to explain the NGC qualifier. There are no sizeable marks, however, and a few shallow flan flaws at the upper reverse border join the list of as-struck anomalies. With sharp striking detail to all features that are present, this piece sports rather strong eye appeal in a major mint error in this challenging early copper series.
