Description

GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1710. Anne (1702-14). PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield.

S-3614; KM-523.4. Third bust type, roses and plumes in angles. Sharply detailed through Anne's hair curls and beautifully toned throughout, with bluish purple iridescence in the open fields and glowing golden coloration outlining most of the raised surfaces. As a date, VERY RARE and underrated in Mint State, this being the only example to make any MS grade at PCGS or NGC in their combined 60+ years of grading coins. Deeper digging does uncover one other example which could presumably qualify as Mint State if certified, that piece appearing over 15 years ago in a October 2003 Dix Noonan Webb sale where it brought 1600 GBP hammer (nearly $2,700 USD hammer at the time). Given the long duration between offerings, perhaps a once in a generation opportunity for the Queen Anne enthusiast to acquire a world-class example of the date.
