Type I Manila Overstrike, with serrated borders and reverse legend; dies prepared by Don Benito de los Reyes. Overstruck on a 1827-LIMA JM Peru Republic 8 Reales. This nicely preserved example boasts a strong central strike with complete central devices on both sides. Due to the typical uneven strike only portions of the serrated border on both sides is present and partial legend on the reverse. Consequently much of the undertype is clear and bold such as the mint mark, denomination, assayer letters and portions of the legends. The surfaces display light attractive mottled gray patina with richer coloration in the protected areas adding to its pleasing appearance. A handsome problem free example of the type offering many positive attributes and attractive patina.
