BRAZIL. Brazil - Spain. 600 Reis, ND (1663). Afonso VI. NGC AU-55; Countermark: AU Standard.
KM-19; cf. LDMB-P012; cf. Gomes-A604.02. Decree of 26 February 1663. Countermark: Type III, Crowned 600 with shaped indent. Applied to the reverse of a 1617-+A (Aqueduct [Segovia mint]) Spain 8 Reales of Philip III (KM-28.3). This beautifully preserved and attractive example displays mottled gray patina with hints of iridescence in the protected areas. The countermark is deeply impressed, though slightly doubled, on a nicely preserved high grade host. Seldom encountered on Spanish mainland host coins and should be considered VERY RARE and highly sought after.
