Box Token Fashioned out of the Obverse and Reverse of Facsimile Pine Tree "IV Shillings." Extremely Fine.
37.8 mm. An unusual host for the type, the obverse and reverse design imitate those of the famous Noe-1 Pine Tree shilling, but with the fantasy denomination IV SHILLING above the date 1652. Both sides are richly original in preservation with blended pewter and steel-gray patina. The hinge is fully functional, the lid opening to a pleasing pearl-gray interior that, while missing both a photograph and the covering glass, is inscribed RMB / 1895 on the inside of the lid. A few wispy handling marks and light spots within the interior are hardly worth mentioning. An intriguing piece that is sure to catch the eye of specialists in box dollars and related items, this would also serve as a nice go with in an advanced collection of Massachusetts Bay Colony silver.
