1852 Braided Hair Cent. N-17. Rarity-1. MS-65 RD (PCGS).
A bright, vivid example with a full quota of satin to softly frosted luster. Mint color in vivid rose-orange is virtually full, although starting to fade a bit to steel-brown iridescence on the high points. Faint remnants of an ancient fingerprint at stars 11 and 12 and a miniscule nick on the bridge of Liberty's nose are the most useful provenance markers on otherwise pleasingly smooth surfaces. Grellman Die State c. Writing in the September 2009 Goldberg's catalog for Part III of the Naftzger Collection, Bob Grellman reported that this 1852 N-17 cent is, "Called MS68 and CC#1 by 4 points in the Noyes census...Our grade is MS66, tied for CC#1 in the Grellman census."
PCGS# 147274. NGC ID: 226J.
