Description

1851 Braided Hair Cent. N-15. Rarity-3. MS-65 RD (PCGS). CAC.
Beautiful satin to softly frosted surfaces with full mint orange color to predominantly smooth surfaces. A few faint, well scattered carbon flecks do little more than define the grade, although those between the digits 51 in the date and at the letter I in LIBERTY are also useful for provenance purposes. Grellman Die State b, "the usual state." In his September 2009 cataloging for the Goldberg's Naftzger Collection, Part III sale, Bob Grellman noted that this 1851 Newcomb-15 cent is "MS64 and tied for CC#6 in the Noyes census...Our grade is MS66, CC#1 in the Grellman census."
PCGS# 406691. NGC ID: 226H.
Ex Doug Bird, January 1989; Ira & Larry Goldberg's sale of the Ted Naftzger Collection, Part III, September 2009 Pre-Long Beach Auction, lot 1040. Lot tag and Naftzger envelope with attribution and provenance notes included.

Estimate: $2000
