Description

1850 Braided Hair Cent. N-21, 10. Rarity-2. MS-64+ RD (PCGS). CAC.
A handsome, fully original near-Gem bathed in rich copper-red luster. The surfaces exhibit a pleasing satin texture, and the devices are exceptionally well defined given the advanced die state. This is N-10, the late state of the N-21 variety with the obverse polished so that the digit 5 in the date is now open, and the reverse exhibiting two prominent rim cuds over the letters TES in STATES and F A in OF AMERICA. The superior technical quality and eye appeal of this coin suggest that it traces its provenance to a hoard of late die state 1850 N-10 cents found by Abe Kosoff many years ago. Regardless of how it entered numismatic channels, however, this is a superior example of both the type and die marriage that would make an impressive addition to a high quality set.
PCGS# 1891. NGC ID: 226G.

Estimate: $3100
