1722 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny. Martin 5.2-C.2, W-12810. Rarity-5. Second Type, Harp at Right. MS-62 BN (NGC).
Nicely centered and well struck where allowed by die state, although the latter is quite late with the reverse broken at right and heavily rusted throughout the seated figure, harp and much of the field. Die swell affects the central obverse, which is somewhat blunt like the opposing area on the reverse. This is a strictly Mint State coin, nonetheless, with frosty rose-brown surfaces that are free of troublesome handling marks. A nice high grade type candidate from this colonial era series, and also a coin that will appeal to specialists given the advanced die state.
