Description

JUDAEA. Bar Kochba Revolt. 132-135 C.E. AR Zuz (3.24 gms), Jerusalem Mint, Undated issue, attributed to year 3 (134/5 C.E.). NGC MS, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 5/5. Overstruck.
Mildenberg-194 (O24/R125); Hendin-1433; Meshorer-285. Obverse: Grape bunch on vine tendril; "Shim'on" (in Hebrew) around; Reverse: Flagon with handle; palm frond to right; "For the Freedom of Jerusalem" (in Hebrew) around. Though slightly off-center on the obverse, this lightly toned, unhandled example presents a fair amount of the undertype visible, allowing attribution as a Denarius of Titus.
From the George Henry Carman Collection.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
