A moderately circulated but essentially problem-free example of this non-redeemable ultra-high denomination gold certificate. This design is typically found with punch out or roulette cancels, but in this case, it is perforation cancelled at right on reverse - "Payable Only to the Treasurer of the U.S. or a Federal Reserve Bank." The front indicates a "Washington Issue" variety, dated Nov. 22, 1916. We note as well that the word "Assistant" has been blacked out at center, with the word "Deputy" added in front of the Assistant Treasurer signature (F. J. F. Thiel) at bottom. While displaying some folds and signs of handling, it remains a very nice example for the grade. PMG notes "Canceled, Tape Repair" on the back of the holder. PMG Comments "Canceled, Tape Repair"
