Description

T-64. Confederate Currency. 1864 $500. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
No. 22739. Plate B. Printed by Keatinge & Ball in Columbia, SC. Blank back. Aside from the first Montgomery, Alabama issue, now all but unobtainable, this is the highest denomination Confederate note available. From our March 2015 Baltimore sale in which it was described as: "Simply an exceptional example of the final Confederate series' highest denomination. The uniface $500s feature a reverent depiction of Lt. General Stonewall Jackson at right and an interpretation of the Great Seal of the Confederate States of America with battle flag at left. The motto "DEO VINDICE" means "Under God, Our Vindicator." Just two notes have been graded as finer by PMG, both at 66 EPQ. A truly rare note in Gem grade." We can add little except to note that in the ensuing eight years, the population has changed very little. PMG Pop 3/2 Finer.
From the Mid-Continent Collection.

Estimate: $3000.00- $5000.00
