Description

T-57. Confederate Currency. 1863 $50. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
No. 5276. Plate AZ. Printed by Keatinge & Ball, Richmond VA and Columbia, SC. July, 1863 stamp at left. Portrait of Jefferson Davis at center. While PMG has graded just over 100 T-57s between 62 and 64 EPQ, things drop off precipitously at the 65 EPQ level with this note and only two others comprising the entire population. This note was also offered in our March, 2015 Baltimore sale at which time we said: " This is one of only two T-57s PMG has certified at this level with none finer. This type is very difficult to find well cut as the margins were typically cut very tight. This example shows full boarders as well as great color and deep serial number embossing. The back print is also well centered and displays nice color." Since then PMG has added a third note to their census, and we must point out as well that PCGS Currency also has graded several gems including an incredible 66 PPQ that brought $14,100 at our August 2017 ANA sale. This remains however one of the top examples to be graded and well-deserving of a strong bid. PMG Pop 3/None Finer.
From the Mid-Continent Collection.

Estimate: $3000.00- $5000.00
