Description

CC-84. Continental Currency. September 26, 1778. $40. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
No. 193646. Signed by J. Dundas and R. Caither. Printed by Hall and Sellers, 1778. Higher denominations were added in 1778 as inflation eroded the value of the Continental Dollar. This $40 denomination's emblem pictured the all-seeing eye of Providence shining down on the thirteen states, represented by stars with an alter and flame at center. "CONFEDERATION" appears below. Four full margins, with bold inking of the carrot leaves on the back. PMG Pop 3/None Finer.
From the Mid-Continent Collection.
