Description

1872 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. Proof-65 (NGC).
This handsome piece is warmly and originally toned in dominant smoky-silver, with abundant undertones of vivid champagne-apricot especially when the coin is viewed with the aid of direct lighting. Nicely mirrored in finish with exceptionally smooth and well preserved surfaces. From a mintage of 950 Proofs, many of which may have been melted in the Mint after the Act of February 12, 1873 abolished the standard silver dollar. Dick Osburn and Brian Cushing estimate that 575 Proofs remain. With the typical survivor grading no finer than Proof-64, the desirability of this solidly graded Gem is evident.
PCGS# 7020. NGC ID: 252U.
NGC Census: 13; 8 finer in this category (Proof-67 finest).

Estimate: $10920
