Description

MACEDON. Kingdom of Macedon. Alexander III (the Great), 336-323 B.C. AR Drachm, Abydos Mint, ca. 325-323 B.C. NGC Ch EF*.
Pr-1505; SNG Lockett-1498 (this coin illustrated). Struck under Kalas or Demarchos. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; in left field, forepart of Pegasos left; monogram below throne. This wonderful silver Drachm is almost perfectly struck, presenting a handsome portrait of Herakles and a finely-produced seated Zeus. Pleasingly toned with plenty of luster, this piece is an excellent example of the type.
From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.

Estimate: $100.00- $200.00
