MACEDON. Kingdom of Macedon. Alexander III (the Great), 336-323 B.C. AR Drachm, Lampsakos Mint, ca. 328-323 B.C. NGC EF★.
Pr-1356; SNG Lockett-1480 (this coin illustrated). Struck under Kalas or Demarchos. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; in left field, Artemis Phosphoros standing facing, holding two torches; monogram below throne. This Drachm displays a well-produced portrait of Herakles and sharp details on the reverse. Deeply toned with hints of vibrant iridescent luster, this is a particularly attractive example.
